Yard Waste and Brush Disposal in Janesville and Rock County

Short answer
Yard waste has been banned from Wisconsin landfills since 1993. In Janesville, grass, leaves and garden debris go to the city compost site free for residents, and brush, branches and stumps cost $6 per cubic yard ($8 non-resident). The site is closed December through March.

- Janesville: Compost Site and Clean Fill Facility beside the landfill, April to October, reduced November.
- Edgerton: curbside brush the first Tuesday, April to October; the Fassett Cemetery brush pile is for city taxpayers.
- Evansville: curbside yard waste the first full work week, April to October; leaves until snow or end of November.
- Clinton: village compost site, 100 Scot Drive, from mid-April.
- Footville: compost area at 280 North Gilbert St for branches, leaves and grass, residents only.
- Orfordville: yard waste is not part of the village program.
- Town of Porter: the town recycling center does not take yard waste.
Burning
Edgerton prohibits burning leaves, yard waste and garbage in the city. The Village of Clinton issues free burning permits through its fire department. Check your own municipality before lighting anything.
