Rock County Clean Sweep: Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off

Updated

Short answer

Clean Sweep is Rock County's annual drop-off for hazardous chemicals, open to all county residents with advance registration required (608-757-5588). The 2026 events were June 13 in Beloit and August 29 in Janesville, both past, so call to get notice of the 2027 dates.

How it works

"Clean Sweep is an annual drop-off for HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS from residents and eligible businesses. Clean Sweep is open to all Rock County residents. Due to high demand and limited event days, advance registration is required for all events" (Rock County, Clean Sweep). Register by phone at 608-757-5588 or by email to mary.kubiak@co.rock.wi.us.

Fees

The county's posted fees read: one 5-quart pail of items, $5; up to 2 boxes or 5-gallon buckets, $10 each; up to 3 boxes or 5-gallon buckets, $40.

Where it is held

The location alternates. In 2026 the June event was at the City of Beloit public works site on Springbrook Ct and the August event in Janesville. Milton, the Town of Johnstown and the Town of Porter all point residents to Clean Sweep for hazardous waste.

Why it matters on a cleanout

Garages and basements hold old paint, solvents and pesticides. A junk removal crew will not load them with household junk, so set them aside and register for the next Clean Sweep. Brodhead's curbside clean-up is the one exception we found for paint: water-based paint only, dried out with the lid off.
